Rainbow Trout Films Celebrates 10 Years in Business
Our company has celebrated the 10 year milestone in business.
Our CEO, James Mellor formed the company when he worked with Sky in their in-house Creative Agency. He has a background now going back over 20 years in Film & TV.
The company does 2 main things, on the creative side we make documentaries, like the recently launched The Inflight Food Trip 6 part documentary, now showing on Amazon Prime. This project was filmed around the world and produced over a 3 year period.
On the corporate side, we help businesses achieve their goals with video. Last year we created the brand “The Northern Video Company” to specialise in videos for the Manufacturing, Engineering & Logistic sectors. We have been lucky enough to work with a number of local businesses through this, including Terberg DTS, in Elland, Yorkshire Water and many more.

When lockdown happened, all our jobs in the pipeline got cancelled or postponed to next year. As we do videos for trade shows and events, all of which have been cancelled due to Covid-19. So we have pivoted our business during this period by offering help and advice to our clients and to the local SME community. We produced a short Corona advice animation video for free to help companies communicate with their clients and customers during this period. Like this:
Early on, we produced a series of business help videos for Optimal PBS, covering everything from Furloughing to CBILS and more. This could be achieved with social distancing measures when filming. Link: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/business-advice-during-covid-19-james-mellor/
One plus point of the lockdown has been the rise and effectiveness of online networking groups, we have been able to learn a lot more about local businesses and forging new collaborations. Two in particular stand out, Unpretenious Networking and the Sowerby Bridge Network.
It was also great to get a mention from @Communicate Magazine

We are continuing to help local SME businesses use video effectively with the ever changing digital landscape. Going forward we will be launching a subscription based service soon.
